DrillElectrical Safety & Isolation

Why should a boiler spur not be assumed dead just because its display has gone blank?

PR-G4500D-0009Safe Electrical Isolation & Part P

Electrical safety for plumbers: before you touch a terminal

Boilers, pumps, immersion heaters and controls put plumbers next to live parts every week, and cutting metal pipework can disturb the bonding that protects a whole house. The free question set checks safe isolation, bonding, protective devices, bathroom zones and the simple calculations behind fuse and circuit choices.

  • Safe isolation and proving dead
  • Earthing and bonding
  • Fuses, breakers and RCDs
  • Bathroom zones, Part P and calculations

Safe isolation

Isolation is a sequence, and each step closes a gap the others leave: the right circuit, a point you control, a lock, and a test with an instrument you know is working.

Revise the safe isolation steps

Earthing and bonding

Know what the green-and-yellow conductors on pipework and appliances are there to do, and why work on metal pipework near them needs care.

Revise earthing and bonding

Current, power and fuses

Current is voltage divided by resistance, and power is voltage multiplied by current. Work out what an appliance draws before choosing a fuse or checking that a circuit can carry it.

Treat it as live until you have proved it dead

For an isolation question, follow the order of the job: identify the circuit, isolate it, lock it off and prove it dead, and ask what could put the supply back while you work. For a protective-device question, ask what the device responds to, and what it cannot protect you from.

Try an electrical safety mock test

An electrical safety mock test checks recall without the explanation after each answer, so you see which ideas hold up on their own. This is safety awareness for plumbing work; it does not make anyone competent to carry out electrical installation work.

The free test offers 5, 10 or 25 questions from this same set, with an optional practice timer. In Test mode, answers and explanations appear after you finish. Repeated tests reuse this bank, so a higher score can reflect familiarity.

About electrical safety revision for plumbers

Does this make me competent to do electrical work?

No. These questions cover the electrical safety a plumber needs around boilers, pumps and immersion heaters: isolating and proving dead, bonding, and knowing when the job needs an electrician. Installation work needs the relevant training and, for homes in England, the Part P route.

Read the electrical safety notes

How does this differ from the 18th Edition questions?

The 18th Edition set is for people revising the wiring regulations themselves. This set is the plumber's side: working safely next to electrical equipment and recognising what must be left to an electrician.

Can I take a free electrical safety mock test?

Yes. The Test setup uses 5, 10 or all 25 questions from this set. Choose an optional practice timer and review the explanations after finishing. For broader plumbing revision, add the health and safety, hot water and cold water sets as well.

What is free, and what does Premium add?

All 25 questions on this page are free, with no account or card required. They are selected from the maintained Electrical safety for plumbers question bank. Premium opens the full bank of 125 questions, more modules and Weak-Spot Review.

A free account saves the answers you give while signed in and lets you continue across devices. Without an account, this browser can remember your place for 30 days; it does not transfer earlier guest answers into an account. Signing up keeps the same free question allowance.
