Hot water systems: vented vs unvented

How vented and unvented hot water systems differ and why scald safety matters.

A vented hot water system is open to atmosphere through a vent pipe and is usually fed from a cold water storage cistern. An unvented system is sealed and works at mains pressure, which is why it needs the layered safety devices covered by Building Regulation G3.
