A soundness test checks whether the gas section under test meets the required tightness result. Meter replacement or pipework work that may affect gas tightness calls for a check after the work and before return to use; a suspected escape also needs investigation and testing. If air entered, test before the required purge. IGEM/UP/1B Edition 4 applies from 1 October 2026; Edition 3 was withdrawn on 30 September 2026.
