Standards and guidance
Cold water design in the UK draws on a small set of documents. BS EN 806 covers installations inside buildings across several parts: general, design, the simplified pipe-sizing method, installation, and operation and maintenance. BS 8558 provides UK guidance alongside BS EN 806; BS EN 1717 addresses backflow protection. The BS EN 806 and BS 8558 framework superseded the older BS 6700. The applicable Building Regulations and Water Fittings Regulations set legal requirements. Approved Document G gives guidance on meeting Part G in England; use the applicable documents for the installation’s jurisdiction.
