Manufacturer instructions come first
For any specific appliance the manufacturer installation and servicing instructions are the primary source. They give the exact sizing data, clearances, flue options, water-quality limits, commissioning sequence and service routine. Where general guidance and the manufacturer instructions differ, the instructions for that appliance take precedence, and following them is usually a condition of the warranty.
